Being a member of a student association ensures that you are not only studying, but are also being a student.

You have just come to Amsterdam to study and all kinds of new experiences are coming your way. How nice would it be to be able to share your joys and sorrows with friends? The quickest way to do this is to join a student association. But why would you choose A.S.V.Gay?

A.S.V.Gay offers LGBTQI+ students a sense of belonging and feeling welcome somewhere;

something that is often less or not present at other associations. Everyone's experiences of being LGBTQI+ is different, but being able to share these experiences, such as a coming-out, is a relief for many of us. For our members, their student days are a lot more fun because they feel at home with us, they feel that they are accepted for who they are and they don't have to explain anything when it comes to their sexuality and gender identity.

A.S.V.Gay has no obligatory activities or initiation and takes student into account.

When planning activities, exam weeks are taken into account and our members sometimes study together. So you don't have to worry that being a member will mean that you don't get enough credits.

Throughout the year, activities, drinks and parties are organized by our 20 committees

and the board to suit the different interests and needs of our members. There is something for everyone: we make different trips such as the introduction weekend to Drenthe, the trips to Antwerp and Berlin last year; we went to a theme park and we organize parties, pub crawls and various activities such as a clothing swap, workshops, annual pride symposium, glow golf, picnics, Christmas dinner, etc. Take a look at our website or Instagram for more information. It does not matter in which activity you have or have not participated, because our members meet weekly at our Wednesday drink (the 'borrel') at Amstel Fifty Four to catch up with each other while enjoying a drink (with a member discount).

A.S.V.Gay offers you the opportunity to develop yourself and learn to communicate, organize and manage through committees or board.

Maybe you are very good at designing, organizing or programming, or maybe you've always wanted to learn this. A.S.V.Gay's wide range of different committees, such as the borrel-, travel- and website committee, offer you the opportunity to do so! In addition, there is the possibility to do a board year, if you would like to turn your love for the association into a wonderful item on your resume. Or just want to give something back to the association or community.

A.S.V.Gay has seven clubs.

These are groups with a specific interest or purpose. There is something for everyone, and if this is not the case, members are actively encouraged to start their own club. We currently have the clubs Ad Fundum, the specialty beer club; The Bridge, a club that connects international members with Dutch members; Chaotic Queers, the Dungeons and Dragons club; Philia, the cultural social club, also called "gezelligheid" club; The Rhapsodies, the music club; Trans+, the club for transgender, non-binary, gender-questioning and gender non-conforming members; and Z.O.O.S., the traditional, student-like club.
